TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN

Overview - Teacher Mrs Toni Campbell

Picture
Technology and Design is about designing and manufacturing practical
solutions to problems through imaginative thinking.

Learners use a range of tools, materials, skills and techniques to explore,
design and make products and systems that meet human needs.

The subject aims to develop the pupils’ knowledge in the areas of product design, materials and processes, manufacturing, mechanisms, and computer control. Central to all teaching is the acquisition of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities including problem-solving, being creative, working with others, self-management. The practical nature of the subject provides real opportunities for pupils to nurture these skills in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

The subject is studied by all pupils at KS3 and it is optional at GCSE.

KS3 Design & Technology

Key Stage 3 involves pupils in mainly practical orientated work. Pupils experience working with plastics, woods, metals, electronics, mechanisms. KS3 pupils have 1 Double (1hr 10 min) of Technology per week.
